2019 VR Section at Creative Technology Centre/Brewery Arts Complex DTLA
VR AWARDS ANNOUNCED
FAFF 2019's Virtual Reality Film section at the Creative Technology Center at the Brewery Art Annex east of downtown LA promises has been a special event. Virtual Reality experiences are paving the way forward in creative filmmaking and changing our industry. Films were screened on VR headsets by Oculus - including the new Quest - and projected 360 on a huge curved wall via the new BroomX projector.
Best Documentary VR:
Warsaw Rising by Tomasz Dobosz (Poland) - a very well designed 360 experience inspired by true evens with lost of suspense.
Best Narrative VR:
Tower of Babel by the Sea by Feng Wei (Taiwan) - a mastery of CGI and 360
Best VR made by Women:
Plomo - Journey of a Bullet by Guilia Jimenez (Venezuela)
Best Student VR

FINE ARTS FILM AWARD WINNERS ANNOUNCED

At the FAFF 2019 Awards Ceremony on May 25, Julian Rosefeldt received Best Director for 'Manifesto' (Australia/Germany) in which Cate Blanchett appears as 13 unique characters at the 6th Annual Fine Arts Film Festival, held May 24-26, 2019. at Beyond Baroque Theater, and ViCA/The Loft in San Pedro. Best Documentary Feature Film was awarded to the US Premiere of 'Fondations' (Canada) directed by Olivier D. Asselin, while 'Theatron' (France) and Director Guilio Boato in their West Coast Premiere took home Best Musical/Performance Film. Musical performances and Q&A's featured Jack Rutberg, Christine Noschese, Mustapha Khan, VH Ho-Tep and several others.
FAFF 2019 presented its Virtual Reality Film section led by Ioana Matei at the Creative Technology Center, Los Angeles June 8-9, with an emphasis on VR created by women, and supported by the Women in Immersive Technology group.
“We are so happy with the way the first part of our Festival turned out, with fine filmmakers from as far away as Chile attending, and this year brought our biggest crowds. This festival's Official Selections brought audiences intelligent, cutting edge, eloquent, passionate and fun films, most which will never be available anywhere else in the US. We encourage everyone to attend the finale - our Virtual Reality Section - and it's free!” says Juri Koll, Director of the Festival.
