THE ESTONIAN AMERICAN DISCOVERY AWARDS
The Estonian American Discovery Award was established in 2020 by the Estonian American Discovery Foundation and is dedicated to supporting discovery and invention in culture, science, humanities and history by Baltic and/or Baltic Heritage artists, filmmakers, performers, scientists, researchers, educators and inventors of all kinds.
In times of great change, such as during a pandemic, funding of creative growth and discovery is vital. A classic example of this is Isaac Newton, who created major new insights across vital areas of mathematics and physics as a partial result of his isolation during the plague of 1665.
While usually made with hard work and dedication, discoveries are often made by accident, through trial and error, and sometimes when a completely alternative result is desired. This means that often important achievements are overlooked, under appreciated, or not adequately sought. The Estonian American Discovery Awards are meant to begin to address these realities.
As such, these Award incentives are to be utilized by innovators for the development, production and marketing of ideas and that can provide a better, safer and more productive world, and awarded by a prestigious rotating Advisory Board on an ongoing basis.
Application/Guidelines
FOSTER ART PROGRAM
There is a shortage of, and/or highly unequal, arts and real art world education in low income areas of Los Angeles. This needs to be addressed early and often, especially in the age range of 12-24, as these are years in which arts can play a huge role in the direction of a person's life. There are some organizations that help with this on a daily basis, and yet there needs to be much more added to their ranks, in specific organizations such as ourselves who have the position within the art world to not only teach them how to be creative and eventually exhibit the best of their work, but most importantly nurture careers in the art world as artists and in arts administration, education, documentation, conservation, support staff, infrastructure, and the myriad supporting businesses.
FOSTER ART PROGRAM 2017
December 1- 22, 2017 Art Supplies were gathered and donated to foster kids and at-risk youth over 2018.
The Venice Institute of Contemporary Art collected art supplies for Los Angeles County Department of Children & Family Services Foster Children ages 13-18 and then mentored young adults at a facility in the Inland Empire in April 2018.
In December, 2018 ViCA led workshops and mentoring sessions with young adults for the Felix Organization at their youth camp in Castaic, California.
