Kaija Kesa (b. 1978) creates her masterworks in her print studio/gallery in Tallinn, Estonia, a country with a long tradition of excellence in the challenging medium of the fine art print, which she continues with her personal, yet universal body of work. Kesa's work often focuses on nature and ecological-ethical thinking, and the development possibilities of the human inner world. Kesa masters her subjects, reinforcing her intent through transliteration - altogether - of emotion, aesthetic, and intensively executed technique, always valuing the latter as intrinsic to her work.

Since 2000, she has participated in both local and international exhibitions and projects such as MiniPrintPaese in Italy, Varna Graphic Biennale in Bulgaria and the Wiiralt Prize exhibition in Tallinn, in “Graphics Spreads in Space” in the ARS project room. During 2021-22 she continues her project “Wing Straightening”, realizing her work through mokulito, the little-known Japanese printing technique.

Kesa studied graphics at the Estonian Academy of Arts, the Tampere School of Media and Art (Finland) in the field of animation, and continued in the Department of Sculpture at the University of Edinburgh through EAA.

The Venice Institute of Contemporary Art is proud to bring the unique work of Kaija Kesa to the United States.
